SMK Sedaya Kanowit emerge overall champion in SPTS athletics meet

SARIKEI: SMK Sedaya Kanowit contingent emerged as the overall champion of the Central Region Sukan Prestasi Tinggi Sekolah (SPTS) athletics meet after both its boys and girls teams collected the highest points in their respective categories.

They amassed a total of 30,075 points with 15,494 points contributed by the boys and 14,121 by the girls to beat nine other schools in the three-day meet held at the Sarikei Sports Complex from Aug 20- 22.

First runner-up were SMK Sacred Heart Sibu with a total score of 28,657 points (15,632 points contributed by the boys and 13,025 from the girls).

SMK St Anthony Sarikei with a total of 28,284 points were second runner-up.

Other contingents in the fray were SMK Kapit (27,053 pts); SMK Julau (25,4420; SMK Bandar Bintangor (25,142); SMK Meradong (24,456); SMK BM Saratok (21,827); SMK Tinggi Sarikei (17,714) and SMK Chung Hua Sibu (15,721).

The championship was a platform to pick the best athletes to represent the state at the national-level meet to be held in Selangor during the next semester holiday.

According to an official, athletes to represent the state would be picked from among the participants contesting in the Southern, Central and Northern Zone based on points scored. Prizes were presented by State Education Department Head of sports section, Alta Abang.

Among those present was District Education Head of Sports section Hii How Shuay.
