KUCHING: Sarawak’s 10 per cent stake in Malaysian Liquefied Natural Gas Sdn Bhd (MLNG) 4 is not all about figures or percentage, but an additional source of revenue to bring more development to the state.

State Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, who pointed this out yesterday, said the bottomline of the 10 per cent stake offer would be more funds for development in the state, especially in the rural areas.

“Apparently, the DAP wants to jeopardise the negotiation between the state government and Petronas, and they want to make sure it will not succeed.

“Because when the negotiation succeeds, it will benefit the people of Sarawak and obviously will bring better support towards BN and impede the DAP’s Impian Sarawak,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

He was responding to recent remarks made by state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen who said the 10 per cent stake of Sarawak in MLNG 4 was nothing to shout about.

Chong, also Bandar Kuching MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, said the 10 per cent stake in MLNG 4 should be a totally separate matter to the 20 per cent oil and gas royalty demanded by Sarawak.

Dr Rundi, who is also Assistant Minister for Youth Development (Rural Areas), said the DAP and Pakatan Rakyat would not appreciate the initiatives made by the BN government.
