KUCHING: Kuching Bodhi Path Society is organising Gyalwa Gyatso Tong Chod or Grand Thousand Offering from Aug 29 to Aug 31.

According to the treasurer Irene Chu in a press conference, the grand offering puja event is happening in the state for the first time at the Sarawak Buddhist Association Main Hall.

She explained that the Tibetan Buddhism school of thought believed that one may not have accumulated enough merits in the past lives that resulted in one’s present life’s sufferings like ill health, poverty and relationship problems.

With the offering, it will be able to assist believers in gaining their merits for this life and the next life.

The offering puja event will take place on Aug 29 and 30.

On Aug 31, there will be a grand dedication ceremony, the Kathina Ceremony, Shanghika Dana and Amitayus Empowerment.

Also during the event, there will be fundraising activities; proceeds will go to the building of Karmapa Centre of Education in Kalimpong, India.

Participants who give a donation of RM39 and above will get a T-shirt and bookmark.

The event is expected to draw over 1,000 believers from everywhere including from overseas.
