Crocs sink after desperate struggle

The Sarawak versus Kedah match in progress at the Stadium Negeri on Saturday night.

KUCHING: Neutral observers would likely say it was a fair result that Kedah beat Sarawak 2-1 in Saturday’s Malaysia Cup group match at Stadium Negeri.

Things already looked bleak early in the home match when Kedah stormed to a 1-0 lead and held on to it for the first half.

Ryan Griffiths equalised after the breather only for the visitors to snatch victory with a last-minute free kick.

All in all, it was a match best forgotten.

Head coach Robert Alberts put it down to the stress of desperately trying too hard to win.

“It was simply a case of bad day at the office for us. We wanted to win so bad at home but the result went the other way around,” he remarked.

He was also frustrated that the team failed to supply enough to feed the strikers.

It is an area of concern that Alberts opined needed to be rectified before the next match.

“We had one good feed to the strikers and it ended up in a goal. If we had many more of those chances we could easily have won the match today,” he said after the match.

With the latest defeat, the Crocs are at the bottom of Group B with just one win and two losses.

Sarawak’s 2014 Malaysia Cup campaign continues with the next match on Aug 27 against Kedah in Alor Setar.
