MIRI: Police rushed to Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB)’s office at Jalan Melayu yesterday afternoon when more than 50 oil palm fruits were dumped onto its staircase.

That’s what the staircase leading to MPOB’s office at Jalan Melayu looked like yesterday afternoon.

It was believed the fruits were placed there by oil palm planters who were unhappy with MPOB for not buying from them anymore.

Miri deputy police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, told reporters at the scene that those involved should talk with MPOB.

“They should not resort to the uncivilised act of dumping the palm oil fruits on the staircase,” he said, adding that he would refer the matter to MCC.

He cautioned that such an act would mar the city’s image.

“No arrest was made yesterday as the planters did not vandalise nor damage MPOB’s office,” said Stanley.

Meanwhile, oil palm planters from Bakong, Loagan Bunut, and Tinjar staged a peaceful demonstration at Miri City Council (MCC)’s field yesterday morning to air their displeasure with MPOB.
