Banjarmasin to identify soil quality

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Banjarmasin City Government through the Local Environment Agency (BLHD) will immediately identify the quality of land in this city, Antaranews reported.

Head of Banjarmasin BLHD, H Hamdi, told reporters on Sunday that the identification of quality of soil to determine the structure of the soil in the region.

Bio-mass land portrait program or land identification has been tendered to the third party, and is expected to be awarded, so that the programme could be implemented.

According to him, knowing the quality of the soil is very important. This will determine whether the land be used for agriculture or be converted for residential purposes.

“Identification is the main objective to determine the level of ground potential and feasibility of land. In addition, the level and pollution source could also be determined,” he added.

As far he knew, there is still land in the city area of approximately 90 square kilometres which fertile or able to be used as agricultural land. He said the outskirts of the Sub-districts of East, South and North Banjarmsin, were fertilite.

Hamdi added, in addition to soil quality, his agency had previously been measuring air quality and water quality.

By measuring the feasibility of the three elements of water, soil, and air that will be used as the basis for determining the direction of development and the development potential of Banjarmasin as a reference in the preparation of the Long Term Development Plan (RPJMD).
