MIRI: Miri Hindu Society (MHS) moved closer to their dream of having a temple here when Noble Vision Event Management from Brunei donated RM10,000 recently.

MHS president Selvaraj Grapragasem said the Society was thrilled with the donation and hoped for more donations as the project cost about RM1.5 million.

MHS only has about RM100,000 in their kitty at present.

“Miri Hindu Society is thankful to Noble Vision for the donation. It helps add to our (project) fund.

“We hope the Indian community in general and Hindus in particular would help materialise our dream to build the first Hindu temple here,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Selvaraj said the Land and Survey Department had granted a piece of land at Taman Tunku for the temple.

Currently, Miri Hindu Society members are ‘squatting’ at Raghavan Building at Brooke Road for prayers and other activities. They have doing that since MHS was established in 1987.

Those who wish to donate to the temple building fund can make out their cheques to `Miri Hindu Society – Temple Building Fund’, or bank in the money to CIMB Bank (A/c no. 7033071118).
