KUALA LUMPUR: Police seized 3,195 grammes of drugs suspected to be Syabu, worth RM500,000, and arrested a Nigerian male student in a raid in Bukit Jalil here on Friday.

Cheras district acting police chief, ACP Abd Rahim Hamzah Othman, said in the 2 pm incident, police raided an apartment and found two bags containing the drugs, weighing equipment, a student card in the suspect’s name and two mobile phones.

Police had kept the 27-year-old suspect under surveillance for two weeks, the  first bag yielded three packages of drugs suspected to be Syabu weighing 445g with two digital scales believed to be used in the criminal activity.

“In the other bag was found three plastic packets containing the same drug, weighing 2,750g,” he told a press conference at the Cheras police headquarters here yesterday.

Abd Rahim Hamzah said initial investigations revealed that the suspect lived alone in the house since the beginning of this year, but his involvement in the drugs activities was believed to have started since five months ago.

The drugs were obtained from Nigeria and believed to be brought into the country through ‘parcel’ services to be supplied to neighbouring markets, he said.

The suspect tested negative for drugs and has been remanded for seven days until Friday. — Bernama
