KUALA LUMPUR: Police became the first team to book a berth in the Malaysia Cup quarterfinals after registering their fourth straight victory in Group D.

In tonight’s match played at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu, the Cops gunned down T-Team 2-1 for their fourth win and topped Group D with 12 points.

Police import Ashfaq Ali struck a brace in the 19th and 86th minutes to ensure all three points for the Cops while T-Team import Jimmy Mulisa from Rwanda struck in the 50th minute.

At the Shah Alam Stadium, Sime Darby came from behind to upset Selangor 2-1 for their first win in Group D.

After a scoreless first half, Selangor took the lead through Hazwan Bakri’s 62nd minute strike but Sime Darby staged a late fight back to score through Fahrulrazi Kamarudin (74th min) and Croatian import Mateo Roskam (81st min).

In Ipoh, Perak were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Terengganu at the Perak Stadium but Perak top Group B with seven points, the same as Terengganu, but with a better goal difference.

Both teams failed to score in the first half but Terengganu drew first blood through Vincent Bikana’s 47th minute strike before Perak equalised through Ahmad Nordin Alias in the 87th minute.

In another Group B match played at the Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar, Kedah beat Sarawak 2-1 to stay within striking distance of the top two teams.

Sarawak struck early through S. Chanturu’s 20th minute goal but Kedah managed to equalise in the 51st minute through Billy Mehmet before Syazwan Tajudin struck the winner in injury time.

Both teams had to play the match with 10-man from the 40th minute after referee Syed Azhar Syed Kamar sent off Shafizan Hashim (Kedah) and Putera Nadher (Sarawak). — BERNAMA
