BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Local employees should give their commitment and support towards the government’s efforts to balance the employment of foreigners and locals in the job market by showing that they are on par and possessed of similar or better qualities in comparison to foreign workers, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

In this way it can eradicate doubt and negative views on the quality of local workers. This was emphasised by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports at the Certificate presentation and Best Trainee Award for Scaffolding Short Course for 2nd and 3rd session.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah also stressed that it is the responsibility of local workers to raise the image and competitive value in the job market. However, Yang Berhormat reminded that a success in this employment field or any job in the private sector not only depends on practising the skills learned but is also dependent on attitude and mindset changes as well as high commitment to the job by the worker.

Forty-one participants received their certificate after completing the short course, which was an initiative of the Youth Development Centre with the cooperation of the Blue Oceanic Management Service. The function continues with the signing of employment document with two local companies. Scaffolding course has a higher demand in the job market because the skill is not only needed in the oil and gases industries but also in the building construction sectors which are currently dominated by foreign workers. The certificate presentation ceremony was held at the Youth Development Centre.
