KUCHING: Azam Youth Central invites members of the public especially the youths to drop by at Medan Pelita (lower ground floor) on Aug 30 from 10am to 6pm to join in the ‘#AYCLIVE – Live @ Wayang Street’ event.

The one-day event features a mini concert, busking, cosplay and a flea market.

Performances will be presented by the local youths like Sonar Instinct, Noenaki, Drum Call Community, The Shed, Inspired the Bee, Ready Steady Go, The Outside Edge and Caynie De, a young talented Melanau rapper from Mukah.

The mini flea market will see the sale of various items ranging from communication gadgets to second-hand books, comics, magazines, food and beverage, clothes, sports merchandise, ethnic handicrafts and health products.

The event is an effort by the youths here to provide an avenue for local youths to be active in self-development activities while contributing to the local community by making the city more socially and culturally vibrant.

Among the vendors at the flea market are local youth enterprises such as Blankskript, Twenty Four (Sports Merchandise), Radar Music and Royjen Collection (Sports Merchandise).

On the day itself, a cosplay event will be held and managed by Gendai-bu (anime cosplay club based here) with a number of interesting activities such as a cosplay gathering and stage showcase, figurine and Gunpla (Japanese plastic models) exhibition and card games such as Vanguard (others are yet to be confirmed). Cosplay, short for costume play, is a performance art in which participants, called cosplayers, wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character or idea that is usually identified with a unique name usually from anime, manga, comic books, video games or films.

#AYCLIVE – Live @ Wayang Street is a new series of events organised by the Young Souls this year, under Azam’s Youth Development programme called ‘Young Souls and the City’, introduced in 2012.

Other ongoing activities under ‘Young Souls and the City’ are a fortnightly busking at Damai Central (to help promote local tourism), seminars, talks and forum on self-improvement and development awareness.

Those interested to join in the activities are welcomed to call Kerry or Giacherie at 082-411799.
