FAC time trial set for Sunday

KUCHING: The time trail event set for the FAC course will be held on this Sunday with the participants racing on a 13km loop.

“It is a short distance but quite challenging as there is a steep climbing section,” said the organisers.

The route will see the start near the FAC-Telaga Air junction before heading towards the Kuching Politeknik hill.

The course will then turn up the demanding Politeknik hill before winding through the Matang village to the original starting point.

It is more a lap of the Matang village area than the FAC course used in the national GP series two years ago.

The time trail is very popular in places like England where cycling clubs regularly hold such events.

It is an inexpensive way of getting into cycle racing as it is basically just the athlete against the environment.

Sunday’s FAC time trial is billed as a club-type time trial.

“This is not really a competition, more a chance for cyclists to test themselves and their machine on a measured course,” said the organisers.

“It is also a good introduction to time trialing for those who have never tried it.”

They have enlisted the help of Bike Connexion Team to make sure everything goes smoothly.

“We are very grateful to Mr Kenny Tham for getting his club members involved in the smooth running of this event,” said the organisers.

The registration for the event is on the day of the time trial and begins at 7am.

The first rider to roll from the start line will be at 8am.

There is no charge to participate.
