MIRI: The neighbourhood committee (RT) of Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu will celebrate the country’s 57th Independence Day on August 31 by building an arch to fly the Jalur Gemilang and state flags.

Ishak (standing eighth left) holds the Jalur Gemilang as he and others pose in front of the gateway to the village.

Its chairman Ishak Baijuri said an arch had been specially built at the entrance to the village to fly the two flags. The effort is done in collaboration with the Unity and National Integration Department here.

“The (fly the flag campaign) is aimed at enhancing the patriotism spirit among Malaysians in this Merdeka month and Malaysia Day on Sept 16.”

Village headman Usman Sulaiman, members of Jiran Wanita, Jiran Muda and the volunteer patrol scheme were among those present at the flag-flying ceremony.
