KUCHING: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development) Datuk Naroden Majais will dump a bucket of ice water on his own head in an ‘ALS Ice Bucket Challenge’ late today.

In accepting this challenge thrown at him from The Borneo Post yesterday, Naroden told reporters the money would be donated to the Amyotropic Lateral Sclerolis (ALS)Association.

“It will take place after the 4pm press conference for the Sarawak Regatta, Dragon Boat and East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Forum (Eatof) 14th General Assembly by Tourism and Housing minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg at Baitul Makmur Building tomorrow (today),” he said.

“I will probably ask Datuk Amar (Abang Johari) to help pour the bucket of ice water on my head,” he added.

Naroden is expected to nominate three persons to undergo the ice challenge as well.

The Borneo Post had nominated Naroden and two other ministers – Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and Second Resource Planning and Environment minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan – for the ice bucket challenge early yesterday.

The Borneo Post itself has endured the ‘icy’ treatment and so too Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How and Belaga assemblyman Liwan Lagang upon being invited by Interhill Group of Companies.

An online-run awareness campaign, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has, since kicked off in late July, raised almost $US100 million for people suffering from Amyotropic Lateral Sclerolis (ALS), better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS is a fatal progressive neuro-degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
