SEBUYAU: Assistant Minister for Rural Development Datuk Julaihi Narawi says he will push aggressively for the re-construction of two schools —SMK Sebuyau and SK Sg Ladong — which are no longer safe for occupation.

He said both schools were now in dilapidated condition, thus were posing a danger to the students and teachers.

“We will request for new buildings for the two schools under the 11th Malaysian Plan (11MP), and we hope that the federal government will make it the priority … the two schools need new buildings because the present ones are not safe anymore,” Julaihi said at a Hari Raya gathering at the compound of Sebuyau Sub-District Office recently.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem officiated at the gathering.

Julaihi, who is also Sebuyau assemblyman, added that SMK Sebuyau was not only a danger to the students but was overcrowded from the increasing number of students and people in the area.

SK Sg Ladong situated by the riverbank is facing soil erosion.

“With such problems faced by the two schools, we want the authority (Ministry of Education) to give serious attention in the 11th Malaysian Plan,” said Julaihi who is also Assistant Minister of Industrial Development (Investment and Promotion).

He added he would bring the issue to the state government which, in turn, would bring the matter to the attention of the federal government.

Another project that required the urgent attention of the federal government was the construction of coastal bunds in the area, which were facing flash flood during high tide.

Julaihi said the area would be flooded during the high tide, causing great inconvenience to the people while the intrusion of salt water destroyed the farmers’ crops.

“This problem needs to be addressed and I hope the federal government will help to solve it. On my part I will bring up the matter to the federal government with the assistance of the state government.

Another problem that Julaihi wanted solved is the bumpy 20km stretch of road between Sebuyau and Sebangan, which Adenan said the state government would look into.

According to him, many motorists were now plying the road with the presence of the Sebuyau-Triso ferry service.

Also present at the Raya gathering were Puan Sri Dato Jamilah Anu, Julaihi’s wife Datin Saadiah Buji, Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo and Saribas assemblyman Mohammad Razi Sitam.
