Former Cuepacs chief seeks PM’s intervention

KUALA LUMPUR: Former trade unionist and Cuepacs chief, A Ragunathan, 80, is hoping for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to intervene and resolve his plight.

He claimed to have been deprived of his rights as a retired civil servant for the past quarter century, allegedly due to an administrative bungle.

“I retired in 1989 and am still waiting for my rightful pension, despite the fact that I have furnished all necessary documents to the Public Service Department (PSD) to back up my claims.

“I have also brought my plight to three former prime ministers – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Datuk Seri Najib, but to no avail,” he lamented.

It also bothered him that such alleged setback could happen to other retiring civil servants.

Ragunathan was a trade union icon of his time in the 60s through 80s, and whom Tun Mahathir had described as ‘a unionist par excellence’.

The irony is that in his 30 years as a trade unionist and leader of Cuepacs, having represented hundreds of civil servants to resolve their pension woes, he is finding it an uphill task to settle his own.

Ragunathan has enumerated all the compelling reasons to justify his claim in his autobiography entitled, ‘My Way’, to be released next month.

“After all I am not asking anything more, all I want is what is due to me. This is a matter of principle and it infringes on my rights,” he added.
