KUCHING: For the first time ever, the Home Ministry (KDN) will hold a three-day carnival here starting Oct 10, with the hope to correct the public’s misperception of the various agencies under its wing.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar disclosed this to the media after chairing a meeting involving the various agencies under the purview of the ministry at the Rela headquarters here yesterday.

The departments and agencies under the Home Ministry among others include Royal Malaysia Police, Immigration, Customs, Civil Defence, National Registration Department and Rela.

“The idea of organising this three-day event is to enable the general public to understand better the roles and functions of the respective departments and agencies.

“At the moment, many people know them by names but not their actual roles and functions. For instance, what people know about the police is that they catch criminals and put them behind bars.

“That is all they know and with this carnival, we hope the members of the public will know better what are the actual roles, functions and responsibility of each and every institutions of our ministry,” he said.

According to him, the carnival which will be held at the State Indoor Stadium and its compound, will be graced by Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem on Oct 10.

As a crowd-puller, Wan Junaidi said several entertainers across the board, to include all major races in the country, would be invited to perform stage shows throughout the event.

“Most importantly is that the various agencies will also be providing a ‘in situ’ kind of services to the public where their equipment will be made available.

“Perhaps those who want to renew their MyKads at that time, will also be able to have it done there on that day. So we want to advise the public not to miss this opportunity,” he said.

He said besides exhibition booths to be put up by the various agencies, there will also be a seminar on the newly introduced Crime Prevention Act.

In conjunction with the carnival, Wan Junaidi said he will also make use of the opportunity to launch his book entitled ‘A Policeman’ that tells readers about his 13 years of experience in the force.

The launching of the book will be graced by Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Also present at the media conference yesterday were heads and representatives of the various departments and agencies under the Home Ministry.
