MIRI: Sarawak have alsways been producing quality volleyball players since 2000.

Although Sarawak teams have emerged champions in many national competitions, Assistant Minister of Sports Datuk Lee Kim Shin said there was still room for improvement.

“There is a need for more concerted efforts to further promote the game in order to be able to maintain our domination at the national level,” he stated when officiating at the Curtin Men’s Open Volleyball Tournament at SM Pei Min Indoor Stadium yesterday.

Lee, also the chairman of the Curtin Sarawak Management Board, said he was pleased to note that Curtin Volleyball Club (CVC) each year organised various volleyball tournaments for its students and staff as well as the volleyball enthusiasts in the city. Therefore, he congratulated CVC for the efforts of organising a nationwide volleyball competition successfully in Miri.

“Through this tournament, it will provide an opportunity to every volleyball lover in Malaysia to compete and test their skills in a standard tournament hosted in Miri City.

‘Nevertheless, this tournament will also help to promote Miri players toward other states and divisions, also establishing better understanding among the players and display the teamwork spirit.” Thus, he said CVC deserves to be commended for the initiatives to organise the tournament.

Meanwhile, 12 teams from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah as well as locals were took part in the tournament.

Also present was chairman of Sarawak United People’s Party’s Piasau branch Datuk Sebastian Ting.
