Six more new records created as SMK Chung Hua retain titles

SIBU: Six more records were shattered, bringing to a total of 18 new records at the Sibu Division Inter-secondary and Primary Schools Swimming Championship which ended at Bukit Lima Swimming Pool yesterday.

State swimmers Nee Gui Ping, twin brothers Ngu Jiung Wei and Jiung Jing and Tiong Wui Ling broke one record each on the final day while the relay quartet from SMK Sacred Heart Boys A and SJK Tung Hua Girls C summed up the rest.

“It was a good competition and with so many new records, it was a clear testimony that Sibu swimmers have inproved their performance,” Sibu Amateur Swimming Association (Sasa) chairman Daniel Ngieng said in his closing speech.

Gui Ping clocked 2’14.89” in the Boys B 200m butterfly to erase his own mark of 2’20.47” set in 2012.

With the record, Nee had firmly himself as the butterfly specialist after early eclipsing the 50m butterfly and the 100m butterfly events with new times of 26.92” and 1”00.34” respectively.

Wui Ling also contributed a record in the Girls C 200m butterfly with a new time of 3’03.68”. The old time was 3’06.65 set by Ling Ee Kiing in 2008.

The other records came from Jiung Jin in Boys B 200m butterfly (2’26.12”) and Jiung Wei in Boy’s B 50m freestyle (25.26”).

The highlight of the day was the relay event which saw the formidable team from SMK Sacred Heart comprising Alex Tiong, Siet Chai Lee, Lau Sin Gei and Thomas Tong beating all odds to clock a new time of 2’04.83 in the 50m medley event.

SJK Tung Hua’s quartet of Jolene Ling, Tie Eng Sing, Yoshiko Wong and Angel Lau smashed the Girls C 50m freestyle relay with a new time of 2’26.58”.

Meanwhile, SMK Chung Hua retained the boys and girls overall titles for the secondary schools category while SJK Tung Hua took both boys and girls titles in the primary schools section.

In the Boys section for secondary schools, SMK Chung Hua amassed a massive 329 points to lift the champion trophy, followed by SMK Sacred heart with 224 points, SM Catholic (146 points), SMK Tung Hua (101 points), SMK Methodist (59 points), SM Wong Nai Siong (15 points), Woodlands International School (six points) and SMK Rosli Dhoby with three points.

In the Girl’s section for secondary schools, SMK Chung collected 209 points to win the title, followed by SMK Methodist with 196 points, SM Catholic with 104 points, SMk Rosli Dhoby with 65 points, SMK Tung Hua with 46 points, SMK St Elizabeth with 22 points and Woodlands International School with four points.

In the primary schools category Boys section, SJK Tung Hua chalked up 265 points to lift the overall title, followed by SJK Chung Sing with 192 points, SJK Taman Rajang with 96 points, SJK Su Lai with 68 points and SJK Methodist with 48 points.

In the primary schools Girl’s section, SJK Tung Hua bagged 209 points to win the title, followed by SJK Chung Sing with 172 points, SJK Taman Rajang with 139 points, SJK Methodist with 94 points and SJK Thai Kwang with 54 points.
