PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Human Resources will closely monitor the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) restructuring plan by Khazanah Nasional Bhd(Khzanah) to ensure that it protects the welfare of employees.

Minister Datuk Seri Richard Rio Jaem said a special meeting was held recently on the implementation of the restructuring plan by Khazanah, including the future of MAS employees.

“I am satisfied with the explanation given by Khazanah managing director  Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar.

“MAS will ensure that employees who choose not to remain in MAS or opted for reskilling will be taken care of,” he told a press conference after attending a certificate presentation ceremony for the Recognition of Prior Learning Programme, here yesterday.

Khazanah yesterday announced a 12 point restructuring plan to enable MAS to  recover and post a profit in three years.

The MAS recovery package involves the injection of RM6 billion and reduction of 30 per cent or 6,000 of the national airline’s 20,000 employees.

This means that from July 1, 2015, MAS will be a new company where it will enter into contracts with suppliers for fair terms, taking into account its financial difficulties.

Riot said in addition to offering a Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS), MAS will also provide reskilling training and relocation of staff, including in government linked companies (GLCs).

After the MAS restructuring plan is implemented, only the Malaysia Airlines System Employees Union (Maseu) will represent and fight for its members. — Bernama
