KUALA KRAI: A family came up with their own way of celebrating the nation’s 57th year of independence at the Third Battalion of the 506th Regiment Sungai Durian Camp Territorial Army, here yesterday, dressed in military uniform.

Adnan Ab Malik, 48, from Kok Lanas, Kota Baharu, attended with his wife Salmizan Hussin, 34, and their 10 children aged between two and 17 who were all in uniform and carried flags.

He said he got the idea to wear the military uniform two weeks before Merdeka celebrations.

“I’ve thought about wearing this for quite some time, so I bought the uniforms ahead of time.

“I went to buy the outfits in Rantau Panjang without my wife and children knowing,” he told reporters after the Kelantan state-level Merdeka celebrations here yesterday.

At the function, Adnan also received the special ‘Keluarga Mithali Semangat Merdeka’ award.

Adnan, who works at the Ketereh Municipal Council, said he spent RM500 to buy the clothes.

“My family left the house at 7am to get to Kuala Krai for the celebrations, we do this each Merdeka,” he said.

He said he wanted to instill love for the country among his children and to teach them to appreciate the country as it was a blessing.

More than 2,000 watched the Kelantan-level Merdeka parade which was participated by 53 contingents from around the state. — Bernama
