The two teams collected the cash prizes of RM8,000 and RM4,000 respectively.

The tournament, hosted by Curtin Sarawak Volleyball Club, attracted 12 teams from Miri, Sibu, Sarikei, Kuching, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.

Club president Lucas Teoh said they will organise the same tournament at the same location and month for next year.

“The projection for next year’s tournament is expected to be bigger than this year through increase in the number of participating teams all over Malaysia or probably involving neighbouring countries like Brunei, Singapore or Indonesia,” he added.

He hoped that more members of the public will come to support the event. Teams which participated in the tournament from Aug 29 to Sept 1 included UKM, NST, MSP, Good Sunshine, Spaiko, PCSB-SKO, MFM-Curtin and Hunlian Enterprise.

Gaggil Semporna from Sabah walked away with RM 2,000 after clinching third spot.

About 200 players competed in the tournament.
