Kho, Crystal sweep Sibu table-tennis Open

SIBU: Kho Mao Sheng of Kuching and Crystal Tiong of Sibu emerged Men’s and Women’s champions in the Sibu Open Table-Tennis Championships which ended at Ping Pong Stadium here yesterday.

Second placing for men also went to Kuching through Gabriel Ling while Tian Fatt Sheng of Miri came in third.

Miri’s Foo Wui Jia of Miri and Sibu’s Sia Hsiao Hung of Sibu were second and third for the women’s category respectively.

Karen Lyne of Sibu took the Girl’s Junior Open title followed by Dixie Chai of Kota Samarahan and Esther Tiong of Sibu, third.

Sibu Ping Pong Association president Temenggong Vincent Lau Lee Ming, officiated at the closing ceremony and gave away the prizes. Also in attendance was the association chairman, Dr Clement Chen.

In his address, Temenggong Lau was pleased with the success of the event which attracted more than 100 paddlers. including players from Peninsular Malaysia.

Such events, he hoped, would continue to be organised not only to upgrade the skills of local players but also to foster closer ties with the outstation players.

He also commended Dr Chen for his effort to bring the association to greater heights.
