Election Commission gets new deputy chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah had been appointed the new deputy chairman of the Election Commission (EC).

He succeeds Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar whose term of office ended on Nov 27 last year.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said in a statement yesterday that the appointment of Mohd Hashim, 60, takes effect on Sept 5 until his attaining the age of 66 in accordance with Clause (3) Article 114 of the Federal Constitution.

Mohd Hashim, who hails from Kota Baharu, was secretary-general of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry from Nov 11, 2010, until his mandatory retirement on Aug 31 this year. — Bernama
