KOTA KINABALU: JCI Intan recently organised a Youth Leadership Programme with the theme “Our Time is Now” for over 70 youths aged 15 to 17 years old from more than four different schools in Kota Kinabalu and its surrounding areas.

The programme on Aug 16 was led by internationally renowned JCI trainer and 1997 JCI World executive vice-president for Asia Pacific, JCI Senator Teresa M Alberto, who is also a past president of JCI Intan and a past national president of JCI Malaysia.

The participants were exposed to the concept of being active citizens, the importance of utilising their leadership potential and voluteerism through team building sessions, reflective activities and workshops.

In executing her trainings, Teresa was assisted by JCI Intan immediate past president Lenore Beverley Lee and member Lina Peter Marius. According to 2014 JCI Intan president 2014 Sabrina Aripen, the Youth Leadership Programme is one of the signature projects that JCI Intan has been conducting annually.

“It is wonderful to see so many young and energetic people with so much potential to change the world for the better using up their weekend to attend our programme. It is hoped that they have garnered enough inspiration from the sessions to start creating positive changes in their communities. They can even start within their schools and peers,” said Sabrina.

JCI Intan is a voluntary organisation that firmly believes in empowering young people to create positive change. It seeks to develop the leadership potential of young women in Kota Kinabalu, and is affiliated to Junior Chamber International (JCI) a worldwide youth leadership training organisation for young people between the ages of 18 to 40, with the mission to provide young leaders with the opportunity to create positive change.
