The annual cycling competition, held at the building compound of main organiser Kuching City North Comission (DBKU), was first organised in 2003.

At a press conference held near the DBKU building compound yesterday, DBKU mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai spoke of the increasing profile of the event.

“Not only that it is popular among mountain bike enthusiasts in Sarawak, we also have lots of riders from outside of Sarawak competing in this event too. There are also riders from outside of Malaysia as well,” he remarked.

Also present were Abdul Wahap, Ministry of Social Development principal assistant secretary Mering Wan, DBKU officials, organising committee members, representatives of event sponsors and local mountain bike cyclists.

A total of 250 riders are expected to participate in the four categories – Downhill, MTB XC Time Trial, MTB Cross Country XC and Team Relay (for the Mayor’s Challenge Trophy) – from Oct 31 to Nov 2.

More information on the event can be obtained from DBKU at 082-446688 (extension 130).
