Koo speaks to the deceased’s wife.

He died instantly after hitting his head on the hard surface of the road.

Earlier, the 35-year-old man was quarrelling with his wife in the car over his drinking problem while their two daughters were seated at the back before he suddenly opened the door of the moving car and jumped out.

His shocked wife said she never expected her husband to resort to such a drastic act.

Relating the incident in between sobs, she said her husband had gone to work at a construction site early yesterday.

“I went to pick him up at noon. I found he did not report for work. He was drinking the whole morning,” she said, which sparked the quarrel in the car as she was unhappy with his drinking habit.

The couple had come to Sibu from Pakan to seek greener pastures.

She said she was particularly angry with her husband over his drinking habit as his mother had come to visit them at their rented house at Tiong Hua Road yesterday morning.

Traffic police, including acting police chief Supt Martin Koo and acting CID head ASP Yeoh Chun Shyang, rushed to the scene after receiving a report on the incident.
