ALOR SETAR: The chairman of a Parent-Teacher Association of a school in Pendang pleaded not guilty to two counts of bribery at the Sessions Court here yesterday.

For the first charge, Noor Fazli Osman, 49, was alleged to have solicited RM1,800 from an individual at No 85 Taman Cengkih, Jalan Tokai, Simpang Empat at around 10am on June 6, 2013.

The bribe was an inducement to enable the individual to carry out electrical wiring work at the secondary school.

For the second charge, Noor Fazli was alleged to have received the solicited amount from the same individual at Simpang Empat Kangkong Police Station, at 2.10 pm on June 19, 2013, for the same purpose.

Noor Fazli is charged under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009 for both offences.

The act provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000 or whichever is higher, if found guilty.

Judge Ibrahim Osman allowed the prosecution’s application to set bail at RM10,000 in one surety for both charges.

The court fixed October 9 for mention. — Bernama
