IPOH: A supermarket employee pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here yesterday to two counts of cheating last year.
Mohamad Nasaruddin Mukhtar, 47, was charged with attempting to deceive one Mohamad Firdaus Idris, through a telephone call, into believing that his company was guaranteed of projects under the Home Ministry.
The offence was allegedly committed at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Jelapang here at 2.13 pm on Sept 13, 2013.
On the second count, Mohamad Nasaruddin, from Taman Cheteau here, was charged with another person still at large, with attempting to cheat Mohamad Firdaus by saying that Major (Rtd) Datuk Nordin Ahmad, who he claimed to have close ties with the then Home Ministry secretary-general, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Mohamad Radzi, could guarantee any Home Ministry’s project for his (Mohamad Firdaus) company.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at Restoran Bercham Corner, Bercham here at 5.30 pm on Aug 13, 2013.
Both the charges were made under Section 511 of the Penal Code, where if found guilty, Mohamad Nasaruddin faced a jail term of up to five years or fine or with both. Judge Madihah Harullah set bail at RM6,000 in one surety for each count and fixed Oct 8 for mention.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor from MACC, Mukhriz Mat Rus, while Mohamad Nasaruddin was unrepresented. — Bernama
