TAWAU: Sri Tanjung assemblyman Chan Foong Hin has called on the relevant authorities to carry out regular drainage maintenance as clogged drains could be the cause of the flash flood at Sabindo yesterday.
“Since 6am this morning until 11.00am, Sabindo area, in front of Taman Sabindo was flooded,” he said yesterday.
Chan who is also the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sabah vice chairman said it is the fourth flash flood this year.
“It happens every time after heavy downpour. This morning was the worst with water slowly discharged through drainage. It could possibly be due to poor drainage cleaning as the tide was not high and receding at that time,” he said.
He said the council needs to ensure drains are properly cleaned and improve the drainage system at the same time to avoid future flash floods as it affects the community and business operators.
“We can’t tolerate these anymore as it bring losses to our business,” he said.
