Improper to ask Sabah to leave Malaysia – Lam Thye

KOTA KINABALU: It is improper for anyone to make statement for Sabah to pull out of Malaysia, said social activist Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.

“It is inappropriate and irresponsible because for good or bad, this is our country. For good or bad we have to be united. All countries have problems but issues should be resolved through the proper channels such as at the Parliament or the State Assembly,” he said after launching the SMK Sanzac Road Safety Campaign yesterday.

Lee urged all parties to stop their extreme activities of asking Sabah and Sarawak to leave Malaysia.

“This is too much. If we have issues, use the correct channels,” he said.

He added that the people should be guided by moderation and stressed that anything taken excessively such as food and extreme sport were bound to produce some adverse implications.

“We should always remember the Constitution and the Rukun Negara. We should also adopt mutual respect among the different races. This is the magic word because with respect, we can live together,” he said.

“We have to find a common area that can bind people together.”

Lee also said that he felt that the country was facing a lot of challenges over the years and expected more challenges to come.

He advised the public to use the social media responsibly and for the younger generation to assess any information that was being passed on in the internet.

Lee also spoke of the upcoming Malaysia Day which will be celebrated on September 16 nationwide.

“This will be the 51st Malaysia Day. Through the celebration we can show our patriotic spirit towards our nation. After all Malaysia is our home and we should use all our means to protect the interest of Malaysia,” he said.
