KOTA KINABALU: Sixty secondary school students, coach and officers from all over Malaysia will scale Mount Kinabalu, in conjunction with the Independence Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.

The programme, dubbed ‘Menggapai Puncak Kinabalu 1Malaysia 2014’ (Reaching the Summit of Kinabalu 1Malaysia 2014), is the brainchild of Sabah education director Datuk Jame Alip.

The activity, from September 13-17, is jointly organized by Sabah Education Department and the Ministry of Education in cooperation with Sabah Parks.

Jame said each state, as well as Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, would send two Form Four students and a coach or officer to participate in the programme.

Sabah is represented by a student from SMK Lohan, Ranau and SM St Peter, Telipok, respectively.

“The objective of the programme is to instill the love of our country and pride as a Malaysian citizen.

“It also aims to cultivate patriotism and national integration among students of various races,” he said in a press conference here yesterday.

The participants are expected to arrive on September 13 and head for Luanti, Ranau the next day where they will learn more about the Dusun culture.

At 8am on September 15, Jame will flag off the participants at Kinabalu Park and the climb commences. Upon reaching the peak, the participants will fly the Jalur Gemilang.

On September 16 evening, the participants will attend an event themed ‘Malaysia … Di Sini Lahirlah Senuah Cinta’, which is expected to be graced by Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun.

The organizer has also invited Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman to officiate at the closing ceremony of the programme at the curriculum centre at Malangang Kiulu Camp on September 17.
