BATU PAHAT: Online entrance examination for applicants seeking jobs in the civil service is probably the best option, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.

“The online exam is the best option but we need to study the procedure further and if there are any glitches, the Public Service Commission (PSC) must address the problem,” he told reporters after attending a ‘Jalinan Kasih’ programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tinggi Batu Pahat, here yesterday.

Ali Hamsa was asked to comment on news reports that there were glitches in the online entrance examination sat by applicants for Customs Officer grade W41 post.

A total of 84,856 candidates were called to sit for the examination, but only 56,546, or 67 percent of the candidates sat for the examination while a technical glitch is believed to have prevented the rest from completing their examination.

However, 43,014 candidates were recalled to sit for the online examination on Wednesday, including 127 overseas candidates.

Meanwhile, Ali Hamsa refuted claims that housing loan for civil servants would be stopped.

“Housing loan for civil servants will continue. We will wait an announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during the 2015 Budget soon,” said Ali Hamsa, a former student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tinggi Batu Pahat.

Earlier, he witnessed the handing over of two 14-seater vans to the school by Berjaya Corporation Group of Companies founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan who is also a former student of the school. — Bernama
