Monster Dash is annual fun-filled 5km run themed around the Halloween celebration on Oct 31 organised by OurYouth.my.

It aims to raise fund for three charitable organisations namely Sarawak Children Cancer Society (SCCS), The Society for Critically Sick Kids (SOS Kids) and Kuching and Samarahan Division Cerebral Palsy Association.

The run around the city centre starting and ending at Le’ Park, located behind the Civic Centre, will be flagged off at 7pm.

OurYouth.my director and founder Dato Patrick Liew revealed yesterday that the response towards the run was overwhelming.

“The number of participants has nearly doubled, from 2,500 in the inaugural run last year to 3,700 registered runners as of today (yesterday) and we are expecting more to join especially those from the private corporations,” he said.

Yesterday, OurYouth.my welcomed GEN Education Group as its corporate partner and marketing associate to promote this meaningful charitable event.

The brief partnership ceremony held at GEN Education Hub in Kota Sentosa between OurYouth.my represented by Liew and GEN Education Group by its chief executive officer (CEO) and founder Dato Joseph Hii was witnessed by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang.

Lo highlighted that with the involvement of GEN Education Group, now almost all universities and colleges in the whole of Malaysia had heard of the event.

“More importantly, there are over 700 students from 29 secondary schools within Kuching and Samarahan division had been invited by the Group to join this event,” he said.

“We hope all our efforts and endeavours will further encourage and inspire charitable values amongst the young students in the state, particularly in the region of Padawan,” he added.

Liew, in echoing Lo’s view, also pointed out that OurYouth.my’s main intention was to promote a healthier lifestyle among youths and create a bigger platform through events to bring them together.

“At present, OurYouth.my has about 4,900 youth members and 50 merchant partners,” he said.

On the run, Liew promised that this year’s event will come with an added twist to get the run more exciting but definitely safer.

“We don’t want to reveal the whole gimmick yet but it is definitely more fun. The route is more or less the same with zombies and monsters preying and a monster-haunted house,” he explained.

“There will be the lucky draw offering prizes worth up to RM10,000 up for grabs. Prizes include Samsung 40’ TV, iPad, smartphone, and many more,” he added.

Noting that cleaning the streets after a major public event was a main concern, Liew assured that people have been contracted to clean up the rubbish along the route.

“It will not be left overnight. It is also part of our efforts to educate the public to engage in civic-minded practice,” he said.

“In every event, I always emphasised that we are responsible for our own waste. It is not difficult to put them into the rubbish bin,” he pressed.

Liew also urged the local council to strictly enforce the hygiene and cleanliness law in the streets to address this issue.

The organiser urged the public to sign up and enjoy a night of fun run. Registration for the run, divided into men and women category, is still open with a fee of RM35 per person.
