PKR eyes Nangka and Bawang Assan seats in next state polls

SIBU: PKR will attempt at lobbying for the Bawang Assan seat in the next state election as the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) front will again contest in all 71 constituencies.

State PKR vice-chairman See Chee How, in disclosing this, said Bawang Assan would be the additional seat that PKR was aiming for among five in this division, with the other being Nangka.

DAP lost in the Bawang Assan seat while winning Dudong, Palawan and Bukit Assek in the last 2011 election.

“While the component parties in PR have not finalised the allocations of seats, we (PR) are definitely going to contest in all seats, just like during the last state election (in 2011).”

See said PR would be watchful over the possibility in the increase of the number of constituencies as widely speculated.

“If it does, then PKR would fight for more seats to field its candidates.”

Bawang Assan and Nangka are both Barisan Nasional (BN) stronghold.

In the last state polls, PKR stood in 49 seats and won three, namely Krian through Ali Biju, Batu Lintang (See) and Ba Kelalan (Baru Bian).

DAP contested in 15 and won 12. PAS lost in all seats they contested in.

See also disclosed that there was no dispute between the three parties in PR as far as seats allocated to them in the last state election were concerned.

“These are the 18 seats for PKR, 12 for DAP and three for PAS. We will iron out the rest of the seats to ensure that there would be no in-fighting (in PR),” he said, adding that PKR would be eyeing for constituencies of mixed zones and rural areas.

Meanwhile See said PKR had geared up for the state election with an election training workshop in Kuching early this year, followed by the launch of a fund-raiser here last Saturday.

“This is a historic event for the Lanang branch in launching this extensive and comprehensive fund-raiser.

“In preparation for the state election, we not only need to prepare the groundwork, but we also need manpower, machinery and funding.”

PKR treasurer William Leong, who was also at the launch of the fund-raiser themed ‘Light-up Sarawak’, called on party members and supporters to go all out in the next state election.

Also present were Miri MP Michael Teo and Kanowit PKR secretary George Chen.
