KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Torstein Dale Sjotveit has received recognition for his contribution in transforming the state-owned utility company into a modern and agile corporation.

The 59-year-old Norwegian was named ‘CEO of the Year’ at the Asian Power Awards 2014 held here recently, a press release said.

The ceremony was the highlight of the Asean Power Week running from Sept 10 to 12.

Sjotveit was honoured for his leadership in steering SEB towards powering the development in the state via Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).

Appointed as CEO of the corporation in late 2009, he has over 30 years of experience in various industries including shipbuilding, oil and gas, petrochemicals as well as aluminum.

In his acceptance speech, Sjotveit attributed the award to the hardworking SEB employees.

“It is not my work alone that has made these achievements possible, but it is through the collaborative efforts that started from the visionary development the Sarawak government, up to the relentless contribution from my team encompassing all levels from management to operations,” he said.

Sjotveit expressed his gratitude to the state government, as well as to SEB board of directors, management and staff for all the significant feats achieved by the company.

The ‘CEO of the Year’ was the highlight of the awards ceremony. Other honorees included ‘Power Retailer of the Year’ (Singapore), ‘Smart Grid Project of the Year’ (Singapore), ‘Coal Power Project of the Year’ (India) and ‘Transmission and Distribution Project of the Year’ (Hong Kong), as well as ‘Independent Power Producer of the Year’, ‘Power Utility of the Year’ and ‘Utility of the Year-Malaysia’ awards – all three were also won by SEB.

The annual Asian Power Awards programme aims at setting the benchmark of corporate excellence for those in the power industry.

Currently in its 10th year, the awards have been honouring top achievers, best practices and innovations in Asia.

Organised by the Asian Power Magazine, the award was presented by its editor-in-chief Tim Charlton.
