7000 cows stock for Qurban in South Kalimantan

BANJARBARU, South Kalimantan: Head of the South Kalimantan Animal Husbandry Agency, Sabrie Madani, said cows stock for sacrifice (qurban) in preparation for Eid al-Adha 1435 Hijri as many as 7,000 heads, Antaranews reported.

“Cows stock is estimated to be sufficient to meet demand for sacrificial animals on Eid al-Adha because it exceeds the estimated demand that range 6,000 to 7,000 cows,” he said in Banjarbaru on Monday.

He said 7,000 cattle stock is not fully available in the breeder cages or feedlots, but some traders still order and expected to come ahead of Eid al-Adha.

The available stock of cattle in the cage is 3,629 heads, so that 4,000 other cattle required from outside the region, especially from Java, West Nusa Tenggara and Bali.

In addition to cattle, other sacrificial animals are prepared such as goat 2,500 heads and 1,500 more heads needed because it is less than demand predicted to 3,700 heads.

Although the 2014 demand for sacrificial cow to down compared to last year due to the political situation has passed, but his agency still providing sacrificial animals especially cows exceeding demand so as not to have a shortage.
