BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A local man was sentenced to a month imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to falsely telling the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) that he lost valuables worth around BND$1,700 in a ‘daring robbery’ in Kg Parit last Saturday morning. The robbery was however a fictionalised account by the defendant, Brudirect reported.

Hj Md Hady Yussra Hj Md Yussof lodged a false police report on the alleged robbery at the Sengkurong Police Station at about 0447 morning hours on September 13.

The RBPF issued a statement in connection with the case, saying that lodging a false report is an offence which could lead to prosecution.

The thirty-three-year-old Hj Md Hady Yussra was charged under Section 177, Chapter 22 of the Penal Code, the RBPF said.

The defendant informed the police that he was on his way home when four men suddenly stopped his car. The defendant claimed the men wielded a machete and a knife and forced him to get out of the car.

The defendant alleged that the men took a mobile phone, a bracelet, a necklace, a wallet and an envelope containing BND$1,360 from his car. The money belonged to the Dart Committee of Kg Wasan, the court heard.

At 1100 morning hours the same day, the defendant was called back to the police station and investigated which led to the discovery of the false information about the alleged robbery.

The defendant said he had made up the story as he had lost the money which he left in his car when he went to a shop.

The defendant’s wallet, silver necklace and bracelet were later found in his car.
