‘It takes two to tango and sincerity has to be there’

KUCHING: Conciliation is a two-way street and to succeed it needs one vital element – sincerity.

Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian

SUPP president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said this yesterday in response to the prime minister’s recent call to SUPP and UPP to conciliate.

“There are no permanent enemies or friends, but certain things need sincerity. It takes two to tango and sincerity has to be there,” Dr Sim said during a breakfast-with-the-media at SUPP headquarters here.

For now, SUPP would focus on serving the people and BN, instead of wasting time on petty matters within or outside the party, he said.

On education, Dr Sim said top Malaysian and Chinese leaders were expected to endorse a branch campus of Shanghai Jiaotong University in Malaysia.

“We want a branch campus of Shanghai Jiaotong University in Malaysia.

“I have seen progress, and once endorsed, Shanghao Jiaotong University branch campus will be like the Xiamen University branch campus in Kuala Lumpur.”

On another matter, Dr Sim said there would be 70 per cent of new voters, mostly from ‘urban village’, during the 11th state election and 14th general election. He defined urban village voters as those who live in the city but vote in their hometown.

“It will not be just urban phenomenon for elections between 2016 and 2018 because many rural voters live in urban areas.

“How many voters are now living in Kuala Lumpur and come back to vote during elections? These people do not know how hard we have worked.”

Meanwhile, Dr Sim said the party’s first Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting after last week’s triennial delegates’ conference (TDC) would be on Sept 21.
