Ikea recalls Gunggung swing for safety reasons

KUALA LUMPUR: Ikea yesterday urged customers who have a children’s ‘Gunggung’ to immediately remove it and bring it back to the Ikea store where they will receive a full refund.

Ikea has received reports of incidents showing that the suspension fittings on the ‘Gunggung’ swing do not live up to Ikea quality requirements posing a risk of serious injury.

“We develop products intended to stimulate children’s creativity and natural need for physical play. Children don’t think about safety when playing, so we need to do that when we develop products,” business area manager for children’s products at Ikea, Cindy Andersen, said in a statement.

“Our mindset at Ikea is that we only sell products that we would give to our own children. However, sometimes even though we have tested according to applicable standards and legislation, we make mistakes.

“We are therefore recalling the ‘Gunggung’ swing to avoid any more incidents,” she said.

The ‘Gunggung’ children’s swing, which has been sold in Ikea Malaysia since April 1, 2014, can be returned to the Ikea store for a full refund. Proof of purchase or receipt is not required for a full refund.
