Three held over drug abuse

MIRI: A housewife was among three individuals arrested by police at different locations here on suspicion of being drugs addicts.

Acting on a tip-off, a police party from the Narcotics Department raided a house at Tudan Phase 6 at 9.45am yesterday and arrested the 41-year-old housewife.

A urine test conducted on the suspect was positive for methamphetamine,or Syabu, and amphetamine.

The suspect is being detained and investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.

She could undergo treatment and rehabilitation at a rehabilitation centre for two years and then undergo supervision for two years upon conviction.

She could also be placed under the supervision of an officer for a period of between two and three years.

At the same resettlement scheme, police also arrested a 22-year-old jobless man and detected traces of drugs in his urine.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In the third arrest, a 28-year-old labourer was also tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine following a urine test at a rented room at Jalan Jee Foh Utama in Krokop around 8.30pm on Monday.
