Youths take centre stage in Malaysia Day celebrations

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia’s 51st year of formation celebration in Sabah saw youths and students spearheading the performances and activities, with young people from various schools, organisations and bodies taking charge of the stage – as well as the seats, at the celebration in Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in Likas, here yesterday.

The event, graced by Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and wife, Toh Puan Datuk Seri Panglima Norlidah Datuk R.M. Jasni, as well as other cabinet ministers, saw the venue starting to fill up with an audience as early as 7am.

A high-spirited crowd of about 5,000 people comprising of students, members of uniformed contingents, National Service trainees, civil servants from various government bodies, and many others, were gathered at the venue, enjoying performances such as poetry, choir performance, choral speaking, and skits, followed by an off-the-programme impromptu performance by Malaysia’s well-known rock legend, Amy Search.
