Cilacap Chief Engineer found dead

KOTABARU, South Kalimantan: Chief Engineer (KKM) of MT Cilacap tanker, which burned in the Kotabaru waters, found dead, Antaranews reported.

Chief of Pertamina Kotabaru Depot, Sutjipto, here, yesterday said, Purwo Hadi Wibowo (50) was found in the engine crontrol room, on Wednesday at around 08.30 by the joint team of Pertamina, Basarnas (The National Search and Rescue Agency), and others.

Earlier, Kotabaru Police Chief, AKBP Rizal Irawan, who was accompanied by Water Police Chief AKP H Sumari, said MT Cilacap has 26 crew (ABK), but four of them on leave. When the incident occurred there were only 22 ABK. “When evacuated by rescuers, only 21 ABK were found alive, and one remained missing,” he explained.

21 ABK of MT Cilacap, which burned Monday (15/9) at around 23:30 pm, survived after being evacuated with five tougboat. Three tugboats from the harbor master and two tougboat from mining company, Baratama and PT Arutmin.

Tankers carry about 4,500 kiloliters of fuel. The fire was extinguished on Tuesday (16/9) at 1:30 am.

MT Cilacap is tanker that serves as fuel terminal to fueling ships at sea for the ship destination for Sampit, Pangkalanbun, Palangkaraya Pare-pare, Balikpapan and Banjarmasin.
