Gas cylinder shortage in Labuan

LABUAN: A consumer has urged the relevant authority or agencies to resolve the shortage of gas cylinders in this island.

Julius Elias who is also a local activist, informed The Borneo Post yesterday that consumers were rushing to the retailers, especially at the villages, to exchange their used gas cylinders with the refilled ones.

“The people here are facing the difficulty due to the shortage and we cannot buy the new gas cylinders for our spares as the shop operators do not want to sell them,” he claimed.

He said that it was more difficult for them to get the refilled ones at the town due to competition from the food outlets and restaurants, which was unfair for them.

Elias added that they had tried to search for the refilled gas cylinders two or three days ago but they did not find any.

“We are worried after our gas cylinders are empty, it will be difficult for us to get new supply at the retail shops in the villages as the policy is first come first serve. If you do not rush to get the new one, then you will be in trouble.

“If you want to get spare, then you need to find someone who wants to sell their gas cylinder, as the retailers will not sell the new one to you. The point now is most of us here, I believe, only have one gas cylinder for household consumption,” he said.
