KUCHING: Forensics experts in the Netherlands have identified the remains of Sarawakian Meling Mula who was among 298 victims of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH17 tragedy on July 17.
Meling, 48, was an offshore worker with a scaffolding Kuala Lumpur-based company based in Venezuela. He hailed from Bintulu.
He leaves behind a wife Simbut Kedit, 39, daughter Maryline Sindun, 18, and sons Benedict Bana, 15 and Gabriel, 8.
Also identified were fellow Malaysians Liew Yau Chee, Tan Siew Poh, Metthew Ezekial Sivagnanam and Lee Kiah Yeen.
However, their release has yet to be announced by the Dutch authorities, according to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai through a press statement yesterday.
Liow also said the remains of Sarawakians Muhammad Afzal and his sister Marsha Azmeena – children of the late Tambi Jiee – would be brought home tomorrow (Friday) morning. They are expected to arrive at the Royal Malaysian Air Force base here around 11am.
The remains of Afzal and Marsha are expected to arrive at the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 8.30am. A crew member on board the ill-fated flight, Shaikh Mohd Noor Mahmood would also be brought home to his hometown in Peninsular Malaysia.
Meling, Tambi, Afzal and Marsha as well as Mohd Noor were among 298 victims (including 15 crew members) of the MAS flight MH17 tragedy.
Tambi, 49, his wife Ariza Ghazalee, 47, and all four children Afif, 19, Afzal, 17, Marsha, 15, and Afruz, 13, were killed in the MAS flight MH17 tragedy.
On August 22, the remains of Ariza and Afif were brought home for burial at the Semariang Muslim cemetery. Tambi’s remains were brought home on Sept 9 and were laid to rest beside his wife and son.
