207 shuttlers for second leg of Sarawak Junior State Closed

KUCHING: Two hundred and seven shuttlers from 17 teams throughout the state will be vying for top honours in the second leg of the Sarawak Junior State Closed badminton championship at the Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) Hall along Jalan Lapangan Terbang from today until Sunday.

Felicia Fong Xin Hui from the Sarawak Badminton Association will be competing in the Girls U15 singles and team up with her sister Flora Fong Xin Jie in the Girls U15 doubles.

SBA and Vision Badminton Academy (Kuching) are fielding the biggest number of participants with 30 players each.

They are followed by Pacific Badminton Management (19), Chung Jing Sport (Miri) and Miri Badminton Association 2002 who are sending 17 players each while Miri Badminton Centre has 16 representatives.

Other teams include Chong Cheong Yong Training Centre (14), Club BAK (14), Kuching Badminton Association 2002 (13), Pro Wira Sibu (8) and teams sending six players each are Vong Xiang Wei Training Centre, Sibu Elite Training Centre and Thumb’s Up Badminton Academy (Sibu), Kuching (5), Bintangor (4) and there are one player each from Everspring Sports and Lawas District Badminton Association.

Categories to be contested are Boys/Girls U12, 15 singles and doubles and matches shall commence at 8am this morning while more matches will be held in the afternoon from 2:30pm and in the evening starting at 7:30pm.

The most contested event will be the Boys U15 singles that will see 102 players battling it out for top honours.

Top winners of the competition shall represent Sarawak at the National Junior Inter State U12, 15 Mixed Team Championships in Kedah from December 17-21.
