KUCHING: A motorcyclist involved in a serious road accident was able to unlock his mobile phone and request members of the public to call his family prior to collapsing and later succumbing to his injuries.

The victim, 22-year-old Penteri Jalip, made the final request to those who came to his aid after he was hit by a lorry and dragged for some 10 metres on the road.

The 5.30pm incident occurred along Jalan Matang-Malihah while Penteri was making his way back
to his house at Taman Malihah after work.

He was said to have crashed on the road while avoiding a collision with a car, but ended up being struck by a lorry and dragged underneath.

Witnesses at the scene said the victim was still conscious when passing motorists came to his aid, and was able to unlock his mobile phone and ask those around him to inform his family about what
had befallen him.

Moments later, however, Penteri complained of breathing difficulties and fell unconscious, prompting
the public to call for an ambulance.

Paramedics rushed him to the Sarawak General Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries
while receiving treatment.

Police are investigating the fatal accident.
