SIBU: Crime investigating officer Inspector Shahidi Sobri, 32, testified at the High Court here yesterday in the trial of Jacob Ting who faces three murder charges, attempted murder and another for attempted suicide.

Ting is accused of killing his wife Ling Yung Ming, daughter Christine Tiang Soon Ai and son Victor Tiang Soon Seng and attempting to murder his son Vincent on July 5 last year.

Shahidi said he went to the house where the murder occurred thrice on July 5, July 6 and 9 for inspection.

He said he was with a forensic team during the second visit.

He said while the forensic team did the inspection inside the house, he stayed at the house compound.

He went back to the house again about 6pm on July 9 for another inspection with ASP Yeoh Chun Shyan and a police photographer.

“That day, Yeoh seized a piece of A4 paper written with Chinese character on both sides. After the inspection and the seizure (of the paper), the key to the house was given back to Vincent,” he told the court.

The three murder charges are filed under Section 302 of the Penal Code that carry the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The charge for attempted murder is framed under Section 307 of the same code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or in this case, 20 years for causing hurt to Vincent while trying to kill him.

The charge for attempted suicide is filed under Section 309 of the same code which carries a year’s imprisonment, or with a fine, or with both.
