KUCHING: Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation (Brooke Dockyard) achieved another milestone with the completion of the South Acis Satellite (SA-SA) substructure for Murphy Sarawak Oil Co Ltd.

The SA-SA substructure, weighing about 750 metric tonnes, was completed within schedule by July 31 this year, and was loaded out on Sept 8.

The project awarded to Brooke Dockyard on Nov 14, 2013 by Murphy Sarawak Oil Co Ltd involved engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the SA-SA substruction for Murphy’s Sarawak SK309/311 SPSA Development Project.

“The completion of this project reflects the great teamwork and endeavour of all personnel involved, with Murphy’s personnel providing guidance, particularly in areas of developing and sustaining health, safety and environmental culture to the team.

“For this project, Brooke Dockyard achieved an accumulative 215,672 man hours without any lost time injury,” Brooke Dockyard acting general manager Norhizan Sazali said in a press statement released yesterday.

According to Brooke Dockyard project manager Tiew Yiing, the SA-SA substructure sailed yesterday to its destination in the South China Sea – approximately 40 to 80 km from Bintulu in water depth ranging from 35 to 50 m – for installation by mid-September this year.

Eighteen years ago, Brooke Dockyard made a brave and strategic move to enter the demanding and challenging oil and gas sector by getting involved in the fabrication of offshore module – comprising drilling platform and gas compression/production modules, water injection platform and living quarters – while maintaining heavy engineering works including specialised and high-tech shipbuilding.

Throughout the years of involvement in the oil and gas fabrication industry, Brooke Dockyard has crafted its capabilities from a simple PC contract to a more complex and comprehensive EPCIC for light and medium weight offshore modules and structures.

The first EPCIC project undertaken by Brooke Dockyard was Merapuh-A (Mepa) Production Topsides Facilities in 2012 for Murphy Sarawak Oil.

Brooke Dockyard has so far completed 18 offshore modules, 13 substructures and four offshore living quarters.

Other clients that Brooke Dockyard has served in the past include Petronas Carigali, Shell, Talisman, and ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Ltd. Brooke Dockyard aims to be an important regional player, especially in engineering works in the oil and gas industry.

Besides providing employment for 1,200 to 1,500 personnel within its Demak Industrial Cluster, Brooke Dockyard has trained more than 600 welders and provided training placements for university and polytechnic students.
