UPSR leaks shouldn’t tarnish image of teachers at large — STU

KUCHING: The leaking of Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) papers should not be used to tar all teachers with the same brush.

Referring to a recent national newspaper front page headlined ‘Teachers or cheaters’, Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) president Jisin Nyud said it was uncalled for that teachers overall were being classified as dishonest and lacking in integrity.

“While I feel regret about the incident as it involved teachers, it is unfair to judge teachers overall because there were also other individuals involved in the offence.

“I hope the incident can open up the minds of our teachers to continue to practise integrity,” he said at the STU’s 22nd Biennial Delegates Conference launching on Wednesday.

Assistant Minister of Industrial Development (Investment and Promotion) Datuk Julaihi Narawi launched the conference on behalf of Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

Jisin stressed that teachers should focus on their duties.

“Teachers must continue to stay focussed in their teaching activities because they have important responsibilities to nurture the next generation,” he said.

He added that STU is committed to working closely with the state government, Education Department and Ministry of Education.
